LIGHTWAVE

A blend of different kinds of synthesizers from analog modulars to digital instruments, LIGHTWAVE occupies a special place in the field of electronic music; by the very nature of sounds and the variety of atmospheres, by the special role given to sound processing and by the technique used in playing the music and using joint composition comparable to a real work of art or a sonic sculpture.

LIGHTWAVE - Christoph Harbonnier and Christian Wittman - are living in Paris. The digital mix has been done by Michel Geiss, Jean-Michel Jarre 's main partner as musician and soundengineer.

NACHTMUSIK (Night of May 14/1989)

The magic of blue lights shadows and images everywhere, in the silence and the cool of the night, between 1 and 2 o' clock in the morning. Diodes palpitate, throbbing of analog hearts, electronic effects breathe green, red, green, red. Sounds fill the room, loudspeakers send out vibrations of profound and never-ending effusion, of curves and loops, endless falls into the weightlessness of the void. Symphonic fragments take off and disappear, following the contours of an improbable space-time, while the sonic vibrations rumble on indecipherable signals.

In this surreal atmosphere a chorus is born and is blown away. Sounds of voices cross the stereo image. Suddenly sunlight streams in, bells ring, everything comes to life in a living explosion of sound and then falls into nothingness. Cold-waters and blackness of the Styx lead the fusion of a new substance. Floating music, deep meditation, night music; music of the imagination between sleep and dreams, into a tainted, privileged state of awareness where connections are made and broken between beings, the world, sounds and silence.

JUST ANOTHER DREAM

Dreams meet up with the turning points of memory. Liquid masses of electronic tones move slowly; ghosts trains collide while a lunar keyboard sound drifts in the night. A series of changing atmospheres and landscapes, sand dunes and sleeping swamps. A journey on synthetic waves: filters and oscillators sculpt electricity, build strange towers that mark out the roads to dreams, in a crescendo of sound and substance. Anxious waiting, a look at the horizon, a piano becomes impatient on a background of underwater explosions. The ocean's wave of serenity finally breaks, a chorus and chords of a hidden symphony. It was just another dream, somewhere, the other side of the night.
